Why This Initiative Exists
Human civilization stands at a moment where science, technology, and global challenges are reshaping the future of life on Earth. Yet many young people encounter science only as formulas to memorize rather than as a profound exploration of existence itself.
Scientific literacy is essential for the future of humanity. Yet many students experience science as distant, abstract, and disconnected from their lives. Complex fields such as particle physics are often perceived as inaccessible, even though they describe the very structure of reality.
When children lose the sense of wonder that drives discovery, society risks losing the curiosity needed to solve the challenges of the future.
Teaching the Building Blocks of the Universe
The 17 fundamental particles that make up everything in existence — from stars to smartphones, from galaxies to the human heart.
Through the book series James Who Saw Differently, children encounter these particles not as isolated facts but as part of a larger story about the universe and humanity's place within it.
Our Mission
The Particle Universe Initiative exists to ignite curiosity about the universe in every child, everywhere.
Through storytelling, science education, and outreach, the initiative introduces young readers to the fundamental building blocks of reality while nurturing the deeper human qualities that make discovery possible—wonder, courage, imagination, and empathy.
We believe that understanding does more than expand knowledge. It connects ideas, communities, and generations. It allows people to see both the universe and one another more clearly.
By bringing the story of the universe to young readers, we aim to nurture a generation that approaches the future with curiosity rather than fear, understanding rather than division, and imagination rather than limitation.
The Next Great Mind Could Be Anywhere
Throughout history, some of humanity's greatest discoveries have come from unexpected places. Albert Einstein was not a professor in a great laboratory when he transformed our understanding of space and time—he was a patent clerk working quietly in an office in Switzerland.
Stories like this remind us of an important truth: Talent and imagination are not limited to one place, one school, or one community.
Yet many children grow up without access to the experiences that nurture curiosity. Some have never visited a science museum. Some lack mentorship in science or mathematics. Others may feel a deep sense that there is more to the universe but do not yet know where to begin exploring.
"We must look everywhere. We must teach everyone.
Because the next great discovery may already be waiting in the mind of a child who simply needs the opportunity to begin asking questions."

The Future Begins with a Question
In a time when humanity faces complex global challenges, nurturing thoughtful and curious minds may be one of the most important investments we can make.
If children grow up understanding the building blocks of the universe, and feeling inspired by them, they may also grow into adults who approach the future with curiosity, responsibility, and imagination.
In this way, a simple question asked by a curious child—
"What is everything made of?"
—can become the beginning of a much larger journey.
